Really cool upgrade. I love the look. I found the factory gauges hard to read in certain light conditions. I no longer have to interpret my speed.
Install: I am very mechanically inclined to the point that I can / have done basic maintenance like replacing headlights or a coolant overflow tank. I would not dive into the engine. It took me about an hour to do the install and another hour to get the settings correct.
Tools: 10mm wrench to disconnect the battery, Torx T20 for the screws.
Install issues:
1. The torx drive that came with the kit was incorrect. It was a T10 and needed a T20. I happened to have a set of torx bits, so no problem.
2. The little connector from the display to the trim is incredibly short and stiff. hard to reach and line up. Hardest part of the install. they could have given us an inch (3 CM) of slack.
3. Self-inflicted: I didn't get the usb cable pushed out of gauge space. So there wasn't room to push it all the way in. Had to do the install twice to find and correct the problem.
4. You must install the panel first and then add the trim. If you put them together, it will not go through the opening.
After install:
1. There are no real instructions for configuring the dash options and the stalk mounted controls on BMWs are definitely not intuitive.
2. I could not specify my model for the type (E88). That option does not exist in the list. (Which is exhausting to go through.)
3. My cluster came set to Kilometers and Celsius even though it came from Texas and was shipped to Arizona. This is one of the more difficult things to set. It is in Factory setting and you need a passcode (0169) to get to it.
