Our average production lead time is typically 3–5 weeks. More complex or highly customized builds may require additional time depending on the materials, carbon fiber work, stitching, and selected configuration.

Because every steering wheel is individually handcrafted, production times may vary slightly from order to order.

How Will I Know When My Steering Wheel Is Ready to Ship? Once your steering wheel has been completed, our team will send you detailed photos of the finished wheel so you can review the final configuration and confirm that all selected details are correct.

After confirmation and final quality-control checks, your steering wheel will be prepared for shipment. A new tracking number will then be provided and updated with your order.

Where Does My Steering Wheel Ship From? Our custom steering wheels are handcrafted by our specialized production team in Europe.

Before reaching the customer, each steering wheel is processed through our U.S.-based operation, where final quality-assurance inspections and finishing checks are completed.

Your finished steering wheel is then shipped from the United States.

These are not generic dropship steering wheels. Our U.S.-based BAVMODS team has direct involvement with every custom steering wheel before it is shipped to the customer.

Can My Order Be Rushed? Unfortunately, we do not recommend rushing the handcrafting process.

Custom steering-wheel production involves several detailed stages, including shaping, material application, hand stitching, carbon fiber finishing, curing, setting, assembly, and final inspection.

Many of these processes require specific curing and setting times that cannot safely be shortened without affecting the quality of the finished product.

We would rather take the necessary time to produce your steering wheel correctly than compromise craftsmanship for a faster turnaround.

Do Other Companies Ship Custom Steering Wheels Faster? You may find companies offering prebuilt or partially customized steering wheels with shorter shipping times. However, a truly made-to-order steering wheel requires significantly more production work.

Traditional custom steering-wheel lead times within the industry can commonly range from approximately 8–16 weeks, depending on the builder and level of customization.

Our typical lead time of approximately 3–5 weeks allows us to offer a relatively fast turnaround while still maintaining the handcrafted process and quality standards expected from a fully customized steering wheel.

For that last section, I would be slightly careful with saying “we are one of the only companies” unless you can substantiate that claim. The version above still makes your advantage clear without creating an unnecessary marketing/legal claim.

When Does the 3–5 Week Lead Time Begin? The estimated 3–5 week lead time begins after all required vehicle information and customization details have been confirmed.

Our team typically reviews and confirms all submitted information within 48–72 hours after your order is placed. During this time, please keep an eye on your email in case our team needs any additional photos, vehicle information, or clarification regarding your selected configuration.

Once everything has been fully confirmed, your official production lead time will begin.

Will I Receive Updates During Production? Yes. You are always welcome to contact our support team for an update on your steering wheel while it is in production.

Once your steering wheel has been completed, detailed professional photos will be taken and sent to you so you can review the finished product, inspect the selected details, and confirm that everything looks correct before final shipment.

What Happens If I Don’t Approve the Final Photos Right Away? Your steering wheel cannot be released for final shipment until the completion email and finished photos have been acknowledged.

This final confirmation helps ensure that the steering wheel is not shipped before you have had the opportunity to review the completed design and verify that the details match your requested configuration.

If we do not hear back from you, our team will make multiple attempts to contact you so we can receive confirmation and move your order into final shipment.

Can I Change My Design After Production Has Started? Typically, no.

Within the first 48–72 hours, our team begins confirming the build and allocating the materials required to handcraft your steering wheel. Once materials have been prepared or production has begun, certain design changes may no longer be possible.

If you would like to request a change, please contact our support team as soon as possible. We can review the current stage of your build and let you know whether the requested change can still be accommodated.

While we will always do our best to help, changes after production has started cannot be guaranteed.

Why Does Handcrafting Take Several Weeks? Every BAVMODS custom steering wheel is individually handcrafted rather than pulled from prebuilt inventory.

The process involves multiple detailed stages, including preparing and shaping the steering wheel, allocating and applying the selected materials, completing the hand stitching, performing the carbon fiber work when applicable, allowing proper curing and setting times, completing final assembly, and carrying out quality-control inspections.

Many of these stages cannot be rushed. Carbon fiber finishes, adhesives, coatings, stitching, and other materials require proper curing and setting time to achieve the correct finish and long-term durability.

Because each steering wheel is made specifically to the customer’s selected configuration, our team takes the necessary time to ensure the materials, stitching, carbon fiber work, fitment, and overall finish meet our quality standards before the wheel is approved for shipment.

That handcrafted process is why production typically requires 3–5 weeks, but it is also what separates a truly custom-built steering wheel from a generic preassembled unit.

Once your order is placed, our team begins by reviewing and confirming all of the details of your custom steering wheel within approximately 48–72 hours.

During this verification process, we cross-reference your vehicle information, VIN, factory steering wheel photos, selected options, and requested configuration to help ensure that the correct steering wheel setup is being produced for your vehicle.

After all details have been confirmed, our team sources the appropriate factory OE steering wheel core that will serve as the foundation of your custom build.

From there, the transformation begins.

Each steering wheel is individually reshaped, molded, and contoured by hand to create a thicker, more substantial grip with enhanced bolstering and a more performance-oriented feel. Depending on your selected configuration, our team then begins the carbon fiber work using genuine carbon fiber materials before integrating your chosen premium leather, Alcantara, stitching patterns, center stripe, and additional custom options.

The leather wrapping, stitching, molding, contouring, and finishing processes are all completed by hand. Carbon fiber sections also require multiple stages of preparation, finishing, curing, and inspection before the steering wheel can be fully assembled.

Altogether, a single custom steering wheel requires many hours of hands-on craftsmanship and detailed labor. The result is not simply a modified factory wheel, but an individually built piece designed specifically around your vehicle and selected configuration.

Do You Use Real Carbon Fiber? Yes. Our custom steering wheels use genuine carbon fiber materials for applicable carbon sections.

Each carbon section requires multiple stages of preparation, application, curing, finishing, and inspection as part of the handcrafting process.

Do You Use Real Leather and Alcantara Materials? Our steering wheels use premium automotive-grade leather and suede-style materials selected specifically for interior use.

Depending on the selected configuration, these materials may use genuine leather combined with engineered automotive-grade components designed to improve durability, flexibility, wear resistance, and long-term appearance.

This type of construction is especially important on a steering wheel because the material is constantly exposed to hand oils, friction, temperature changes, and repeated use.

What Carbon Fiber Finishes Do You Offer? Our standard carbon fiber configuration typically features a gloss finish, which provides the deep, reflective appearance most commonly associated with premium carbon fiber.

We can also offer additional finishes by custom request, including:

Do You Use Aftermarket Reproduction Steering Wheel Cores? Our custom BMW steering wheels are built using factory OE BMW steering wheel cores rather than generic reproduction steering wheel foundations.

The original OE core provides the structural foundation of the steering wheel. Our team then completely reworks that core by reshaping, molding, contouring, wrapping, stitching, and adding the selected carbon fiber and other custom materials.

This is an important distinction when comparing custom steering wheels. Rather than starting with an inexpensive generic reproduction, we retain the original factory-engineered metal/core structure and transform it into a fully customized steering wheel.

The result combines the foundation of an OE BMW steering wheel with the appearance, materials, grip profile, and customization of a handcrafted BAVMODS build.

How Do I Know This Steering Wheel Will Fit My Vehicle? Simply select your vehicle from the dropdown menu on the product page, along with the steering wheel style that matches your current configuration.

Does Installation Require Cutting, Trimming, or Permanent Modification? No. For standard compatible applications, no cutting, trimming, or permanent modification is required.

Our custom steering wheels are designed around factory OE BMW cores so they install in place of the original steering wheel using the factory mounting points.

For customers converting from a non-sport steering wheel to a sport-style steering wheel, additional retrofitting may be required depending on the vehicle. This can include transferring or adapting certain wiring from the multifunction controls.

Does the Steering Wheel Come With Buttons and Wiring? No. Unless specifically stated otherwise, the custom steering wheel does not include the factory multifunction buttons, wiring harnesses, or other electronic components.

For most installations, you will simply transfer the compatible buttons, wiring, and related components from your original steering wheel onto the new custom wheel.

If you are converting from a non-sport steering wheel to a sport-style steering wheel, you may also need to source the correct sport-style buttons, airbag wiring, or other compatible components separately.

Is the Steering Wheel Plug-and-Play?

Yes. Once the required factory buttons, wiring, trim, and other applicable components have been transferred, the steering wheel is designed to install using the factory mounting system.

For standard like-for-like steering wheel replacements, installation is generally plug-and-play.

Non-sport-to-sport conversions or other retrofit configurations may require additional parts or minor wiring changes.

What If My BMW Chassis Is Not Listed? If your exact chassis or model is not shown in the dropdown menu, please contact us.

There is a strong possibility that we can still handcraft a steering wheel for your specific BMW. Our team can verify compatibility using your VIN and photos of your current steering wheel before the order is finalized.

Do I Need to Transfer My Factory Steering Wheel Trim? You may reuse your original factory trim if it is compatible and you prefer to keep it.

Depending on the selected configuration, we can also provide a replacement trim piece with your custom steering wheel.

For customers selecting one of our carbon fiber configurations, a matching carbon fiber trim piece may be included with the build depending on the selected option.

If an original used OE plastic trim is supplied, please note that it is a previously installed factory component and its cosmetic condition can vary. Minor wear, marks, or other signs of previous use may be present.

For that reason, customers who want the cleanest finished appearance are generally better suited to selecting the available carbon fiber trim option when applicable.

Does the Steering Wheel Come With New Factory Buttons? No. You will simply transfer your existing factory steering wheel buttons and controls from your original wheel over to the new custom steering wheel.

Will My Factory Buttons Still Work After They Are Transferred? Yes. Once your original factory buttons and controls are transferred and properly connected, they will continue to function just as they did on your original steering wheel.

Will I Lose Any Factory Steering Wheel Controls? No. For a standard compatible installation, your factory steering wheel functions will remain intact after the original controls are transferred.

This includes functions such as volume adjustment, voice control, phone controls, menu/navigation functions, cruise-related controls where applicable, and other factory steering wheel buttons equipped on your vehicle.

As long as the correct factory components are transferred and connected properly, the steering wheel will retain the same control functionality as your original setup.

Will My Cruise Control Still Work? Yes. Your factory cruise control functionality will remain intact and is not affected by the custom steering wheel itself.

Once your original factory controls are transferred and connected properly, cruise control will continue to function just as it did with your factory steering wheel.

Do I Need to Reprogram or Code My Steering Wheel Buttons? No. For a standard compatible installation, no coding or programming is required when transferring your original steering wheel buttons and installing the custom steering wheel.

Your factory controls are simply transferred over and reconnected to the vehicle.

Do All BMW Steering Wheel Buttons Fit Every Model? No. BMW steering wheel buttons are specific to the vehicle, steering wheel style, and equipment package.

Even within the same chassis, a non-sport steering wheel and a sport or M Sport steering wheel can use different button assemblies, mounting points, trim pieces, wiring, and available features.

Because of this, you cannot simply install any BMW steering wheel buttons onto any steering wheel.

For a standard replacement, you will typically transfer the compatible factory buttons from your original steering wheel. If you are converting to a different steering wheel style, additional compatible buttons, wiring, or trim pieces may be required.

Will My Heated Steering Wheel Still Work? Yes. Heated steering functionality is available as an optional add-on for our custom steering wheels.

When selected, our team integrates a heating element underneath the leather and carbon fiber sections of the steering wheel during the handcrafting process. This allows customers with factory heated steering to retain that functionality with their custom wheel.

Will the BAVMODS Heated Steering Wheel Feel Like My Factory Heated Wheel? Yes. Our heated steering wheel configuration is designed to provide strong, even warmth throughout the grip area.

The heating element is carefully routed underneath the leather and carbon fiber sections so the wheel heats effectively without interfering with the appearance, feel, or normal durability of the materials.

Is the Heated Steering Function Plug-and-Play? Yes, for vehicles that were originally equipped with factory heated steering.

Our team integrates the heating element and wiring into the custom steering wheel and connects it to a factory-style BMW wiring harness. You will simply transfer over your original heated steering module, connect it to the new wheel, and then plug the assembly back into the vehicle.

No custom coding should be required for a like-for-like heated steering replacement.

Does the Steering Wheel Come With the Heated Steering Module? No. The factory heated steering module is not included.

You will transfer the heated steering module from your original steering wheel to the new custom wheel. Our team installs the heating element and required internal wiring so that once your original module is transferred and connected, the heated steering function can operate through the factory system.

Can I Add Heated Steering to a Vehicle That Did Not Originally Have It? Yes, it may be possible, but this would be considered a retrofit rather than a plug-and-play installation.

We can build the steering wheel with the heating element and internal wiring already installed. However, if your vehicle did not originally come with heated steering, additional vehicle-side wiring, compatible components, and coding may be required before the function can operate.

For vehicles that already have factory heated steering, the heated functionality can be retained with the correct configuration.

How Do I Know If My Car Has Factory Heated Steering? BMWs equipped with factory heated steering will generally have a dedicated heated steering wheel button located on or near the steering column trim.

If you are unsure whether your vehicle is equipped with this feature, please email our support team with your vehicle information and, if possible, a photo of your steering wheel and steering column area. We can help you confirm whether your BMW has factory heated steering before you place your order.

Do You Offer Steering Wheels With Paddle Shifter Cutouts? Yes. During the order process, our team reviews your vehicle information and VIN to confirm the correct steering wheel configuration for your BMW.

You can select whether your steering wheel requires paddle shifter cutouts. If selected, we will configure the wheel with the correct mounting areas so your compatible factory paddle shifters can be transferred over.

Can I Retrofit Paddle Shifters If My Vehicle Did Not Come With Them From the Factory? Yes, in many cases this is possible, but it is considered a retrofit and may require additional work beyond installing the steering wheel itself.

We can configure your custom steering wheel with the correct paddle shifter cutouts and mounting provisions. We may also offer compatible custom paddle shifter options depending on the application.

However, if your vehicle was not originally equipped with factory paddle shifters, additional vehicle-side wiring, splicing, compatible components, and coding may be required before the paddles will function properly.

Because retrofit requirements vary by chassis, model, transmission, and factory equipment, paddle shifter functionality cannot be guaranteed on vehicles that were not originally equipped with them.

Does the Paddle Shifter Cutout Option Include Paddle Shifters? No. Selecting the paddle shifter cutout option means our team will custom-cut and configure the steering wheel so compatible paddle shifters can be installed or transferred over.

The paddle shifters themselves are not included unless they are specifically selected or listed as part of your order.

For vehicles that already have factory paddle shifters, you will typically transfer your existing paddles onto the new custom steering wheel.

What Is the Return Policy for Custom Steering Wheels? Because every BAVMODS custom steering wheel is individually handcrafted to order, returns and exchanges are not accepted for buyer’s remorse, preference changes, or incorrectly selected customization options once production has begun.

A single steering wheel can require many hours of specialized handcrafting, including material preparation, molding, contouring, carbon fiber work, wrapping, hand stitching, curing, assembly, and finishing.

Within approximately 48–72 hours of placing your order, our team begins confirming the build, allocating the required materials, sourcing the appropriate OE core, and scheduling the labor necessary to begin production.

Once this process has started, the materials and handcrafted labor associated with your custom order are nonrefundable.

What Happens If BAVMODS Makes a Mistake With My Steering Wheel? We absolutely stand behind our craftsmanship.

Our team has handcrafted hundreds of custom steering wheels for customers around the world, and every completed wheel goes through our quality-control process before shipment.

If your steering wheel arrives with a verified manufacturing defect, material defect, or an error caused by our team, we will work with you to make it right.

Depending on the situation, this may include providing a prepaid return shipping label so the steering wheel can be inspected, repaired, corrected, or replaced as appropriate.

For example, if you ordered a steering wheel for an E90 and we incorrectly produced or shipped a wheel for a different chassis, we would take responsibility for correcting the order.

The custom-order policy is not intended to prevent customers from receiving support for legitimate defects or errors caused by BAVMODS.

Can I Cancel My Order After Placing It? Cancellation requests must be submitted as quickly as possible after placing your order.

After approximately 48–72 hours, cancellations are generally no longer available because our team has already begun allocating materials, sourcing components, and dedicating labor toward your specific custom build.

Because these steering wheels are made specifically for each customer, labor and materials already committed to production cannot simply be returned to inventory.

Please make sure all vehicle information, materials, colors, stitching, carbon fiber options, and other custom selections are correct before your build is confirmed.

What If I Made a Mistake With One of My Customization Details? Contact us as soon as possible.

We will always do our best to accommodate changes requested within the initial 48–72 hour confirmation period.

After that period, production may already be underway and materials may have been cut, molded, stitched, wrapped, or otherwise prepared specifically for your steering wheel.

If you notice an error or would like to request a change after production has started, please contact our support team immediately. We will review the current stage of your build and let you know whether the requested change can still be accommodated.

Changes after production begins cannot be guaranteed.

Are Custom Materials and Labor Refundable? Once production has begun, the specialized labor and materials allocated to your custom steering wheel are generally nonrefundable.

Every wheel is produced around a specific combination of vehicle fitment, steering wheel shape, materials, stitching, carbon fiber configuration, heating options, paddle provisions, and other customer-selected details. Because of this, many components and labor hours cannot be repurposed for another order once the handcrafting process has started.

What If I Entered the Wrong Vehicle Information? Do I Have to Cancel My Order? Not necessarily.

Our team decodes each VIN submitted with the order and reviews the steering wheel photos and vehicle information provided. If something does not match or appears incorrect, we will do our best to catch it before production begins and contact you for clarification.

That being said, the customer is still responsible for providing accurate vehicle information, VIN details, photos, and selected options when placing the order.

Our verification process is designed to help prevent mistakes, but it does not replace the customer’s responsibility to confirm that the information submitted is correct.

If you notice an error after placing your order, please contact our support team as quickly as possible so we can determine whether the build can still be updated.

What If My Steering Wheel Arrives With a Defect? We stand behind our custom steering wheels.

If your steering wheel arrives with a verified manufacturing or material defect, our team will provide a prepaid return shipping label and work with you to determine the proper solution.

Depending on the issue, this may include inspection, repair, correction, or replacement.

Our goal is to make sure legitimate issues are taken care of properly. We will not leave a customer without support when there is a verified defect with one of our products.

Can I Return My Steering Wheel Because of a Small Variation or Detail That Looks Slightly Different Than Expected? Unfortunately, we do not offer outright returns for minor cosmetic variations or slight differences in custom materials.

Because every steering wheel is handcrafted, small differences in leather texture, stitching, carbon fiber patterns, colors, and other custom details can occur.

This is especially important with custom color matching. If you provide our team with a color reference or swatch, we will do our best to match it as closely as possible and may provide available material options for you to choose from.

However, an exact 100% color match cannot always be guaranteed. Slight differences in shade, material texture, lighting, factory interior aging, or production batches are considered normal with custom handcrafted products.

What If My Steering Wheel Is Damaged During Shipping? If your steering wheel is damaged during shipping, please contact us immediately.

For verified shipping damage, our team will work with you to replace or remake the steering wheel at no additional charge.

Please provide clear photos and video documentation of the steering wheel, packaging, shipping box, and visible damage within 48–72 hours of receiving the package.

This documentation is important so our team can properly review the damage and, when necessary, submit the required information to the shipping carrier.

Once the damage has been verified, we will provide the appropriate resolution and make sure the issue is taken care of.
