Fuel Pump & Filter Replacement Guide

Start w/ Empty Fuel Tank
It is highly recommended to conduct this DIY with an empty, or very low fuel tank, to mitigate any fuel spillage.

Locate Rear Passenger Seat
Start at the rear passenger seat of the vehicle. Open both vehicle doors to allow airflow during this process.

Release Rear Passenger Seat
Release the rear passenger seat cushion by grabbing where the seat clamps are located (white arrows) and pulling upwards.

Remove Rear Passenger Seat
Remove the rear passenger seat from the vehicle.

Reveal Fuel Pump Cover
Peel back the rear passenger carpet to reveal the fuel pump assembly cover.

Remove Fuel Pump Nuts
Remove the 4 10MM nuts securing the fuel pump cover in place.

Remove the Fuel Pump Cover
Remove the fuel pump cover by lifting it out of place to reveal the fuel pump assembly.

Release Connector 1
Release fuel pump connector 1 by pressing in the side clips and pulling it out of place.

Release Fuel Line 1
Release fuel line 1 by using a flathead screwdriver to depress the blue retention clip. At the same time, gently pull the line from the fuel pump nipple.

Release Connector 2
Release fuel pump connector 2 by pressing in the side clips and pulling it out of place.

Remove Fuel Line 2
Release fuel line 2 by using a flathead screwdriver to depress the gray retention clip. At the same time, gently pull the line from the fuel pump nipple.

Attach Fuel Pump Removal Tool
Attach fuel pump removal tool to the fuel pump locking collar. For removal, ensure the removal tool teeth or situated to the left of the locking tabs.

Release Locking Collar
Release the fuel pump locking collar by turning the ratchet counter-clockwise. Keep turning until the collar is completely loosened.

Remove Locking Collar
Remove the fuel pump locking collar taking extra caution not to bend or damage any of the fuel lines/connectors.

Lift Fuel Pump Assembly
Lift the fuel pump assembly out of place to gain access to the fuel pines attached underneath.

Remove Fuel Line 3
Remove the fuel line attached underneath by using a flathead/pick tool to release the two tabs (white arrows) holding the retention clip in place. Be extremely careful as this clip breaks easily.

Unclip Black Fuel Hose
Unclip the black fuel hose from the fuel pump by carefully pulling up until the hose unclips from the assembly.

Remove Fuel Hose
Remove the final fuel hose connecting to the fuel pump by depressing the black push tab (white arrow) and carefully pull the hose upwards.

Remove Fuel Pump Assembly
Remove the fuel pump by carefully pulling the assembly out of place being careful not to drop any debris into the fuel tank.

Locate Rear Driver Seat
Start at the rear driver seat of the vehicle. Open both vehicle doors to allow airflow during this process.

Release Rear Driver Seat
Release the rear driver seat cushion by grabbing where the seat clamps are located (white arrows) and pulling upwards.

Remove Rear Driver Seat
Remove the rear driver seat from the vehicle.
-
Reveal Fuel Filter Cover
Peel back the rear driver carpet to reveal the fuel filter assembly cover.

Remove Fuel Pump Screws
Remove the 4 10MM nuts securing the fuel filter cover in place.

Release Fuel Filter Connector
Release the fuel filter connector by depressing the two side tabs and pulling it up.

Release Fuel Filter Line
Release the fuel filter line by pulling the retention slide back (white arrow on the left), while pulling the fuel filter line forwards (white arrow on the right)

Release Fuel Filter Collar
Release the fuel filter locking collar by turning the ratchet counter-clockwise. Keep turning until the collar is completely loosened.

Remove Locking Collar
Remove the fuel filter locking collar taking extra caution not to bend or damage any of the fuel lines/connectors.

Remove Fuel Filter Assembly
Remove the fuel filter by carefully pulling the assembly and all hoses out of place, being careful not to drop any debris into the fuel tank.

Replace O-Rings
Replace both the fuel pump and fuel filter assemblies' o-rings. Use a flathead/pick took to leverage them out being careful not to drop the o-rings into the fuel tank.

Feed Fuel Filter Lines To Pump
Feed fuel filter lines to the fuel pump by routing them through the tunnel located in the fuel tank.

Seat New Fuel Filter
Seat the new fuel filter assembly into place ensuring the alignment tab (right) is flush and in place.

Tighten Locking Collar
Tighten the fuel filter locking collar by turning the tool clockwise.
-
Re-Install Fuel Line
Re-install the fuel filter fuel line by sliding back the filter retention clip and sliding the fuel line into place.
-
Re-Install Fuel Filter Connector
Re-install the fuel filter assembly connector.

Install New Fuel Pump
Install the new fuel pump assembly. To make this process easier, pull the top half of the fuel pump assembly to make connection of fuel lines easier.

Re-Install Fuel Line
Re-install the white fuel line (white arrow) by simply pressing the connector down into place.

Pick Up Fuel Pump
Installing the white fuel hose first allows you to safely pick up the fuel pump assembly, to easily attach the rest of the hoses.

Connect Fuel Hoses
Connect the remaining 2 fuel hoses, by picking up the fuel pump assembly and snapping the hoses into their clips.

Line Up The Fuel Pump Holes and Poles
Line up the holes on the bottom half of the fuel pump assembly, with the poles on the top half of the assembly.

Connect Fuel Line 3
With the holes and poles of the fuel pump assembly aligned, connect fuel line 3. After securing the fuel line, reinstall the retention clip.

Press Fuel Pump Into Place
Press the new fuel pump assembly into place by pressing down and holding. Ensure the alignment tab is flush and to the right.

Install Locking Collar
Install the fuel pump locking collar by pressing down against the fuel pump assembly while threading the locking collar into place.

Re-Install All Hoses/Connectors
After the locking collar is installed, re-install all of the fuel pump hoses and connectors.

Prime Fuel Pump
To prime the fuel pump, insert the keyfob into the ignition, press the push-start button to power on all accessories and wait 3-5 seconds. This is 1 prime cycle. Repeat 3-5 times minimum.

Test Start Car
Before putting the vehicle back together, test start the car to ensure the new fuel pump and fuel filter work properly.

Re-Install Fuel Pump/Filter Covers
Now that you've started the car and confirmed the new fuel pump and filter work properly, re-install the fuel pump and filter covers with their respective 10MM nuts.

Re-Install Rear Seats
Re-install the rear seats by simply pressing them, back into place.

DIY Complete
Good job replacing your fuel pump and fuel filter! They should only need to be replaced once throughout the vehicle's lifetime, but keep an eye out for any stuttering or hard starts that could indicate a faulty fuel pump/filter.
