Dashboard Cupholder and Trim Replacement

  • Materials Required

    • Plastic Trim Removal Tool
    • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Loosen Trim Piece

Using a plastic pry tool, carefully lift the edge of the cupholder trim until the clip pops free.

  • Lift Remaining Clips

Carefully lift the remaining three trim clips one at a time, being cautious not to snap or damage the trim piece.

  • Remove Trim

With all four clips free, remove the cupholder trim from the vehicle. Pictured above is an example of a broken trim piece that was bent too hard.

  • Remove Screws

Using a screwdriver, remove the two phillips screws that hold each cupholder in place.

  • Remove Cupholder

With both screws removed, the cupholder can be removed from the dashboard. The curved cupholder closest to the driver may need to be wiggled out with a bit more effort.

  • Insert New Cupholder

Insert the new cupholder, keeping it as level as possible to ensure a smooth fit and prevent any damage during installation.

  • *NOTE

For the easiest installation of the curved cupholder, latch the side shown above first, then press the opposite side down until the screw holes align perfectly.

  • Install Screws

Reinstall the two retention screws, tightening them evenly on both sides to ensure the cupholder sits flush.

  • *NOTE

Avoid overtightening the screws. Tighten them by hand until you feel resistance. The image above shows a cupholder that was damaged due to overtightening, as the assembly is made of plastic and can easily crack.

  • Repeat Process

If replacing both cupholders, repeat this same process for the other side.

  • Install New Trim

Install the new trim piece by pressing down from right to left.

  • *NOTE

When you reach the last clip on the left, carefully wrap the trim around the cupholder. The fit is tight as the trim sits flush at the end, so take extra care not to snap it.

  • *RECOMMENDED

The factory finish on the cupholders and trim features a satin rubberized coating. To prevent scratches and preserve its appearance, apply a leather protectant like this one for added protection.
