Installation & Operation

Our illuminated shift knob connects to your BMW’s interior illumination circuit, allowing the integrated amber LEDs to operate in conjunction with your vehicle’s headlight switch.

When your headlights are activated, the illuminated shift pattern lights up with BMW’s signature amber glow. When the lighting circuit is switched off, the illumination automatically turns off.

The weighted ZHP-style short shift knob installs onto your factory manual shift lever, while the included replacement shift boot restores the surrounding interior trim.

Important Shift Knob Alignment & Installation: Before installing the new shift knob, locate the internal alignment notch inside the knob and align it with the corresponding slot on your vehicle’s shift lever. Gently rotate the shift knob back and forth until you feel the alignment notch engage correctly.

Once aligned, apply firm, even downward pressure to secure the shift knob. In some cases, hand pressure alone may not be sufficient to fully seat the retaining mechanism.

If additional force is necessary, first verify that the alignment notch is properly engaged. A soft rubber mallet may be used with a folded microfiber towel placed over the shift knob to protect its surface. Apply only light, controlled taps directly downward until the shift knob is fully seated. Avoid excessive force, as improper alignment or heavy impacts may damage the shift knob or internal retaining mechanism.

After installation, verify that the shift knob is securely attached and cannot accidentally detach during normal gear changes.

Electrical Wiring & Connections: For a secure and reliable installation, we recommend using appropriately sized insulated heat-shrink butt connectors when connecting the shift knob’s illumination wiring to the vehicle’s existing electrical circuit.

Ensure the positive and ground wires are correctly identified before making any connections. Properly crimp each connector and use a heat gun to seal the heat-shrink insulation, helping protect the connections from moisture, vibration, and accidental separation.

Please Note: Electrical splicing may be required depending on your vehicle’s existing illumination wiring. Vehicles without factory illuminated shift knobs may require additional wiring connections.

The shorter ZHP-style shift knob enhances the feel and ergonomics of gear selection but does not modify the transmission’s mechanical shift throw.
