The N20, BMW’s 2.0L turbocharged inline-4, debuted in 2011 as the replacement for the naturally aspirated N52/N53 engines. With its twin-scroll turbocharger, direct injection, and Valvetronic technology, the N20 brought strong power and efficiency in a smaller displacement package. Though later succeeded by the B48, the N20 remains one of BMW’s most tunable 4-cylinder engines, capable of impressive gains with just a few bolt-on upgrades.

One of the simplest and most effective upgrades for the N20 is replacing the restrictive factory airbox with an open-element cold air intake and precision-fit heat shield. This design allows the filter to draw in air from a 360° angle, providing your turbo with the unrestricted airflow it craves. The result: quicker throttle response, improved torque delivery, and a more responsive driving experience.

Beyond performance, the intake also delivers a sportier induction sound — complete with a pronounced turbo spool and signature “whoosh” when you get on the throttle.
